NASCAR: Behind the Scenes

Credit to NASCAR

You’re sitting in the stands at your favorite track, the pack of cars is flying by, when all of sudden you see a car swerve and the next second there’s smoke.  You then see that same car, smoking, front end crunched, stopped against the wall, debris sprinkled across the track. Finally, you see the famous yellow lights flashing.  A scene with which we’re all familiar…a caution.
How many times do we see this and then patiently wait for the NASCAR clean-up crew to clean the wreck up?  Whether it was just a piece of debris, or the whole car, they are responsible for cleaning up the track and making sure it is perfectly safe for the cars to get back to racing.
That’s what this NASCAR: Behind the Scenes is about; the clean-up crews.

Tough 2011 Season for Goodwin

Tough 2011 Season for Goodwin
After the 2010 season in the Legends Cars, driver #29 Garett Goodwin was excited to get behind the wheel of his new ASA SCAG Power Equipment Truck for 2011. Goodwin's Debut in the Truck was better then they expected. Capturing a top 10 finish in his first start at the tough Wisconsin International Raceway track. After that, his luck started to fall.
Going into his second start in the Truck, Goodwin was confident in not only himself, but in his team. They were at Garett's home track, Grundy CountySpeedway. Garett has had great success in the past years, with having three straight championships in a row (2007, 2008, and 2009). Goodwin had only a few laps of practice going into the race, however, they were still confident that they had the truck handling good. However, the engine blew up on the first lap of the heat race ending there night and possibly their season.
During the month of July, the Goodwin crew found somebody to loan the money to them to help Garett get back behind the wheel to continue his dream of becoming a NASCAR driver. After placing the new engine into the truck, they went to compete in the USST Great Lakes Truck Series at South Bend Motor Speedway to break in the new motor for the following weekend in Iowa.
Garett ended up having to pull off the track due to oil issues half way through the race while leading by a half of a lap. The Goodwin Crew tried to find the problem but was not for sure if they had fixed it or not for the next race at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. While at Hawkeye Downs, Garett was not able to practice and start the heat race due to engine issues. They found out that the valve covers were warped causing the oil to leak onto the exhaust to create the smoke. Goodwin was not able to finish the feature race due to something malfunctioning inside the motor.
The season came to an end with having hardly any luck throughout the entire year of Garett's debut season in the ASA Midwest Truck Tour. Next season, the GGR Crew looks forward to possibly competing in the CRA JEGS Late Model Series for the 2012 season with a few races in the Truck Tour as well.

"We just didn't have the year we expected to get this season," says Garett, "we will just look past it and start fresh for the 2012 season and compete in as many races as we can."
We would like to thank Sevey Motorsports, K1 Race Gear, Quinlan Inc, DriverWebsites.com, SponsorTheTrucks.com, Burkholder Excavating, Hole-In-One Motorsports, Forkers Lawn Service, Shirley's Truck and Tanker Wash, Team Automotive, and all our fans for their help and support.

Justin Lofton and College Complete are ready for Martinsville

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Credit to CollegeComplete.com
October 26, 2011

Last week at Talladega Superspeedway, Justin Lofton and the CollegeComplete.com (http://www.collegecomplete.com) Eddie Sharp Racing team tallied a solid finish in their No. 6 Chevrolet Silverado after embracing a sometimes risky strategy at the famed superspeedway. Lofton started the event from the 16th position and despite six caution flags halting the race, avoided the trouble that racing within the draft often brings, and finished a solid 11th.

CollegeComplete.com, Justin’s primary sponsor, helps the public navigate the ever-changing and highly complex landscape of higher education, connecting students with the institutions whose offerings maximizes the likelihood of success.  Partnered with hundreds of educational institutions both online and on campus and across all types of education goals, including traditional college degrees, trade and vocational certifications, and professional licensure, College Complete helps students assess all of the information that exists in the public domain, allowing them to understand and make sense of their educational opportunities. College Complete has an initiative to assist those in the US Armed Forces and their families and is able to assist in identifying schools that will not only provide the educational requirements of the soldier, veteran or family member but will do so in a cost effective manner.  You can get in touch with your Education Advocate at no charge by calling 877-543-2655.

Lofton has raced at the .526-mile paperclip shaped Martinsville Speedway short track three times leading up to this weekend’s race. In 2010, Lofton tallied a best finish of 13th in the fall event. In April, Lofton’s run there was similar to his first, after a lapped truck made contact with his machine, causing him to suffer heavy damage. He was forced behind the wall for 80 laps for repairs before rejoining the race.

“Martinsville has always been a challenge for us because the racing is so tight there. It is hard to avoid the lapped traffic there and it’s bit us a few times.”  Justin continued “We’re taking a good truck this week and I am really looking forward to it. We have the speed, we just need some luck to play on our side too.”

Tournament time: Plans for the Second Annual Justin Lofton Charity Golf Tournament are beginning to take shape, with dates being set for January 6th and 7th, 2012. The tournament, as it was last year, will take place in Lofton’s native California, at the Del Rio Country Club in Brawley, California. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Imperial Valley. The two-day event includes autograph sessions, golfing, a dinner, live concert with Curb recording artist Tim Dugger, and a charity auction. Last year Lofton raised $40,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs.

The No. 6 will also feature sponsor support from Grand Canyon University, Anthem College Online and Advance Payment Services (joinAPS.com).

Founded in 1949, Grand Canyon (http://www.gcu.edu) is an Arizona-based, private, Christian university that offers online and campus-based bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs in business, education, nursing and health sciences, liberal arts, and fine arts and production. If You Mess with NASCAR, You'll Get Punished

Today penalties were handed out to the No. 00, No. 47, and No. 56 Sprint Cup Series teams for a NASCAR rule violation on October 21, 2011 upon the arrival at Talladega.

Credit to Catchfence.com
The violation?  Rule 20-3.2.1A. You're now sitting there thinking, "Oh yeah, rule 20-3.2.1A; I know what that means," right?  (You now think I'm crazy - I'm not really, just trying to be somewhat facetious for my lack of articles lately.)  Rule 20-3.2.1A is "the unapproved modification to an approved windshield,"  as stated in the ever-mysterious, NASCAR Rule Book.

Crew chiefs, Ronny Childers, for the No. 00, Frank Kerr for the No. 47, and Chad Johnston for the No. 56, have all been fined fifty thousand dollars, and have been suspended from the last four races of the season.  The car chiefs:  Steve Channing for the No. 00, Raymond Fox for the No. 47, and Anthony Lunders for the No. 56 have also been suspended from the last four races.  Finally, Bobby Kennedy, the executive Vice President of Race Operations (cool title to have, right?) at Michael Waltrip Racing has been put on probation until December 31, 2011.

Unfortunately, there was one more penalty,  car owners:  Rick Kauffman, Tad Geschickter, and Michael Waltrip have each been fined twenty-five Championship driver points.  Now that's where the penalties end.

There will be interim car chiefs and crew chiefs for the final four races, Martin Truex, Jr. will have Pat Tryson, David Reutimann will have Bobby Kennedy, and Bobby Labonte will have Brian Burns.

After a Top Twenty Finish, Lofton and College Complete Look For a Top Finish at Talladega

After a Top Twenty Finish, Lofton and College Complete Look For a Top Finish at Talladega

CollegeComplete.com
Staten Island, N.Y.-- Last Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Justin Lofton started fourteenth and was able to work his way through the pack fairly quickly, becoming a prominent face in the top-five and top-ten all day. However, luck was not on Lofton's side as he was involved in a wreck with only twenty laps remaining. This wreck ended Lofton's chances of a well-deserved top-ten finish, resulting in a nineteenth place finish.

College Complete, as an organization, is focused on assisting adults looking to improve their education. In our current economy, there are many people unemployed or underemployed. Studies have shown that simply starting to gain an advanced degree will greatly improve a person’s chances for employment as well as their expected income (http://www.bls.gov/emp/ep_chart_001.htm). Partnered with hundreds of educational institutions and across all types of education goals, including traditional college degrees, online classes and degrees, trade and vocational certifications, and professional licensure, College Complete helps students assess all of the information that exists in the public domain, allowing them to understand and make sense of their educational opportunities. In addition,College Complete has an initiative to assist those in the US Armed Forces and their families and is able to assist in identifying schools that will not only provide the educational requirements of the soldier, veteran or family member but will do so in a cost effective manner. Dan Haim,aPrincipal and Co-Founder of College Complete, reflected on the team’s performance in the past few weeks and immediately saw a similarity with the organization. “As a company, College Complete is laser focused on learning and we are extremely proud to sponsor Justin Lofton, especially as we watch the team improve week over week.”

This Saturday, the No. 6 College Complete (http://www.CollegeComplete.com) will pack up and head to Talladega Superspeedwaywith the plan of learning and improving on past performance, the hopes for a podium finishandto avengefor last year's Camping World Truck Series race at Talladega, where Lofton finished 33rd after getting loose and hitting the wall on lap twenty-two. In 2009, Lofton scored an ARCA Series victory at the 2.66-mile track. The Coca-Cola 250 isSaturday, October 22nd, at 4 p.m. ET, live on SPEED. Lofton remains fourteenth in points and Eddie Sharp Racing still remains seventeenth in owner's points.

Learning from past experiences is something that Justin has been able to do well this year and is something that College Complete takes to heart. The team enters the final four races of the season with more knowledge, understanding, and strength than ever before and is expecting great things. Justin says, “I feel that we’ll be very competitive at Talladega in the CollegeComplete.com Chevrolet. Dan and all of the guys on the team have been doing a great job. We just need to get to the finish line, but you never know what to expect on superspeedways.”

Entering Talladega the No. 6 will also feature sponsor support from Grand Canyon University, Anthem College Online and Advance Payment Services (www.joinAPS.com).  Founded in 1949, Grand Canyon (http://www.gcu.edu) is an Arizona-based, private, Christian university that offers online and campus-based bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs in business, education, nursing and health sciences, liberal arts, and fine arts and production. Racing for Marrissa

Everyone wants to make a difference in someone's life, but few ever get the chance.  Many of you remember Marrissa Bishop, one of Brad Keselowski's biggest fans, who is an extremely strong-willed eleven-year-old girl, who has Acromegaly.  She wanted to have her name on a car and that's what is being accomplished next weekend at Talladega for the Truck race.  Marrissa and many other Twitter [and non-Twitter] people will get their name on Mike Harmon's Truck.  To read more about Marrissa and Mike, click here.

My bracelet from Marrissa
To help pay for her extensive medical bills, Marrissa decided to start making jewelry and selling it on Mike Harmon's website.  The jewelry is extremely nice and you know it's made with a lot of heart.  If you are interested in purchasing some jewelry, check out http://racingformarrissa.mikeharmonracing.com/ to see the collection of the jewelry.   Remember, any donation that you could make to this cause will be appreciated and useful!

I have my jewelry to help this cause, will you do the same?

Staten Island, NY.Justin Lofton drove the No. 6 CollegeComplete.com Chevrolet to a top-fifteen finish two weeks ago at Kentucky after running in the top-ten, even as high as second, throughout the race. A late race pit stop during the closing laps allowed Lofton to exhibit his driving ability, and come home with an 11th place finish.

This week as the No. 6 College Complete (http://www.CollegeComplete.com) Chevrolet rolls into Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, they are hoping for another top finish by Lofton and the No. 6 team. Four weeks ago, Eddie Sharp Racing switched from Toyota to Chevrolet and the improved race results have showed there was a change. Dan Haim, the Principal and Co-Founder of College Complete, is also pleased with the improvements, “While it has been something of a learning experience, it looks like the team has quickly been able to get a great understanding of these trucks and we are looking forward to the opportunity to attack the track at Las Vegas. Race after race the team is learning more and I think that you are going to see some great things coming out of this race team as the season progresses. The increased performance of the team is also bringing attention to our goal, to provide educational opportunities to all.”

Since the Camping World Truck Series only comes to the 1.5-mile, Las Vegas Motor Speedway once a year, there’s no second chance to take what you’ve learned from a race three months ago and apply it to the 146-lap, Smith’s 350 this Saturday, October 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET, live on SPEED. Justin Lofton made his Las Vegas Motor Speedway debut one year ago, starting 17th and wheeling his way up to an eighth place finish. Lofton is currently seated 14th in the Championship standings, moving up a spot at the end of the Kentucky 225 two weeks ago. Owner, Eddie Sharp, is currently 17th in the Owner’s Championship standings.

Justin Lofton’s opinion on Las Vegas Motor Speedway: “I always love racing out west because a lot of family and friends can come out to the race track. I grew up in California, so this is one of few rare opportunities that I get to visit home and race. We’re taking a good truck out there and I’m confident we can bring home a top-10. It’s going to be exciting. We have a busy weekend planned, that’s for sure.”

The No.
