Truck Series Most Popular Driver: Austin Dillon

If I asked you in February of last year who Austin Dillon was, I know many of you would quizzically ask ‘who?’ but there would be a few of you who knew who I was talking about.  Austin, the 20-year-old grandson of Richard Childress, drives the famous number 3 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Chevrolet in the Camping World Truck Series and still has time to attend High Point University as a Sophomore.

In 2008, Austin raced in the NASCAR Camping World East Series.  Since he had one pole, ten Top Tens and one win at Greenville-Pickens Speedway (all in thirteen races); he was the 2008 Rookie of the year in this series.  While racing in the Camping World East Series, in 2008 and 2009, Austin also competed part time in the number 2 Chevy Impala in the Nationwide Series for Richard Childress Racing and at Iowa in 2009 he competed in his first Camping World Truck Series race.

I think Austin could call the 2010 Camping World Truck Series Season a success.  He got his first pole at Texas Motor Speedway in June, in which he managed to lead twenty laps and finish third.  Shortly after that, in July, after winning the pole, Austin won his first race at Iowa Speedway.  In September, Austin won his second race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  The real reason he should call the past season a success?  Six poles (the most poles of a rookie in history), two wins, seven Top Fives, sixteen Top Tens and finished 5th in the Point Standings.

As Austin competes in his sophomore year in the Truck Series, we wish him the best of luck!
