The Worst Things in Life Come Free to Us

To quote an Ed Sheeran song, "The worst things in life come free to us;" and for my parents and I, that's the best way to describe what happened last night.

As some of you know, I live in New York, specifically Staten Island, where we live a quarter of a mile away from the beach; add in Hurricane Sandy and that doesn't make for a very pretty picture.  Our house is done:  we have no power, our basement is flooded, as is our first floor.  That may not seem bad, but our air conditioner, heat, and oil tank are all in the basement, which means that our house is virtually incapable of being lived in.  Saying that I've been crying is definitely an understatement.
Our fabulous indoor pool a.k.a. our basement

It breaks my heart to say this, but I have no idea when the next time I'll be able to write an article will be, so for the time being, I won't be writing anything, because, well, we have no house and are temporarily staying at my grandma's.  I'll most definitely be back, it's just a matter of when.

The amount of love and support my parents and I have received over the past fifteen hours from everyone in the NASCAR community has been truly incredible and I thank you all for all of your prayers!  My thoughts and prayers are with all of the people who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy.

  3. The greatest gift GOD gave all of us is life on this earth. Mother Nature does its worse but it's a blessing to have all of you alive, Ashley. My heart aches on what happened to your home. My hearts go out to you & your family. Hope is always there, stick together and everything will be okay. You can't replace what was in the past but your future is where you start. If y'all need anything of a "help package" or some sort. Lemme know! Lots of love, good luck. - @WilliamCheerboy
